Sure, it's been a month, there wasn't that much left to talk about, I still cringe hearing my own voice, and my ever-more-bizarre sound effects and jokes are reaching an almost-freakish velocity. No matter! None of that could stop the sweet, sweet inevitable:
The third and final DS Lite video review is here!
Packed to the gills with information — and non-information — this tour-de-force video should cover just about any remaining DS Lite questions. I genuinely hope you enjoy it, and thank you for watching it.
Here's a convenient YouTube mirror for you Quicktime-busters and link-sharers.
While I can't promise more "vlogging" in my future (these things take forever!), you never know where this blog might take us. Also, thanks to Nicole for valuable on-location filming assistance!
If you have any more Nintendo DS LIte questions, I'll do my best to answer them in the comments!

( oh, and the ham sandwich killed me :D )
Second - Having had the DS Lite for awhile now, do you have any further comments on the hand comfort of the console/controls? Do you still feel that "letting it breath" provides the best comfort for you while using the DS Lite? Have you played much Metroid Prime Hunters on your DS Lite? (if so, how was the hand comfort/cramping)?
Look forward to any responses you might be able to provide.
Regards,
Mark
I've pretty much totally acclimated to the DS Lite by now, and find it totally comfortable. I have a hard time reminding myself to "let it breathe" but even when I play cramped-style it's still not bad.
Picking up my old DS yesterday for the first time in months was a shocking experience — so, so much heavier than I expected... that goes a long way for the long-term comfort.
Thanks!
Sadly, mine has a duff pixel bam in the middle of the lower screen but it doesn't spoil the game play and it's only noticable on splash screens and when the screens are black. Ah well, can't have it all good all of the time.
Or maybe you did. But man, that was amazing. Oh, and the Star Wars music when the PSP entered was also so amazing that I had to watch it a second time, just to be sure I had seen that right. You, sir, have a gift. You must do more vlogging.
Also, the only other question I would ask is whether the slightly smaller control pad is noticeable when you're actually playing.
I realize you're done with your DSLite series, but I will persist and ask my question: how did you get the DS Lite to eat a taco?
got it.
I'm not sure if YOU know, but you are getting a little following over at forums.somethingawful.com, we could use more cool peeps, think about joining us sometime!
turkey sandwich. genius.
Your blog, however, was still highly informative and made me laugh quite a bit. Keep up the good work!
A great review again, your DS surely has quite sophisticated taste when it comes to entertainment and food :)
One question for you though, who won the lacrosse game?
The battery life has been amazing. I ran it for almost three days of pretty steady use off my first full charge.
You should definitely be doing more of these reviews. They're top notch.
Really hope you keep at the vlogging - seems clear to me there's plenty of people eager for more!
Thanks again! Funny yet informative; a perfect combination.
I'd *pay* to see a semi-regular vlogcast featuring your hands and turkey sandwiches :P
And I agree with other, you need to be making money doing this kind of stuff (TV, movies, whatever), it's being wasted on programming ;)
WTF.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned or asked about the lacrosse game in the background. It looked like Edmonton just got scored on. Too bad about the Lumberjax in the playoffs though (and believe me, I can feel your pain).
PS: it was even weirder since i recognize half the scenery!
Thank you, Cabel.
Thanks for the videos. Froot Loops forever! ;)
Is there any signs of this in the DS Lite? It is imposable to tell by the movies do to frame rate and lighting issues.
It would be a pity if you didn't make more of those.
take care
When you turned on the PSP, it was at its lowest brightness, but when you turned off the DS' to demonstrate, you shuffled through three levels to get to the brightest when you turned it back on.
That really didn't seem like a fair comparison of the screen brightness since they really weren't equal to begin with.
As for a turkey sandwich...well I can't really attach headphones to it or use it in hot spots so that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

I hope you do more of something like this in the future.
Others: Thanks for the incredibly nice comments. I'm glad you guys enjoyed my goofy video!
Anyway, I absolutely love your videos. You really should consider doing more about anything and everything. You need to do a Revolution one when it comes out.
i believe the scene is in sf?
I recognized the fry's bookcases too. hahaha the scavenger hunt for places i know made it even more fun!
and where's that sushi bar? never been to one on a conveyor belt. super shweet~!
Thank youu
Now you made me wish I could buy one for myself too... I'm living in Europe: according to your video I can play EUR-games with a JP-Lite without any problems. What about power? Is it just a matter of plug adapters? Is there something else to be aware of before buying a product aimed at the JP market in order to use it in Europe?
Cheers!
um... sorry... I got nothing :/
You see, the light was green, not read - this means the battery was not drained.
Or does the DS lite go green before it cuts off? as a sort of "I'm not dead ye..." thing
Ironically, I tried to get the battery to drain all day, but it never did, and I think they'd have kicked me out of that bar if I sat and waited for it. I also tried very hard to at least make the light be amber so that joke segment had some accuracy. :) I ran the DS earlier for 4 or 5 hours until it was amber — but when I got to the bar and flipped it open, it was green again! Seriously.
Please note that despite how I make it sound the battery isn't powered by magic, and does die eventually, but it takes some work. :)
To have a read test. Set a solid white background on the psp, and if it was close with the red vs/ white, then the white vs white will have the psp blow the DS out of the water.
Your a fanboy, I can tell, and so I think you were attempting to lean the stakes toward your ds. I have both a ds and psp, and comparing mine theres no competition, psp takes the cake. DS lite may be different, but a FAIR test is all that we can use to tell.
- Link332 speaking for the Nsider forums (Nintendos Official Forum)
If you would like to play MPH sometime. That would be great ._.
Also, "I have both a ds and psp, and comparing mine theres no competition, psp takes the cake. DS lite may be different, but a FAIR test is all that we can use to tell." Hmmm...You think? When did anyone ever say the DS was brighter than the PSP? And if you're so passionate about this "fair test", then why don't you do one?
Anyway, great reviews, cabel! I LOVED them! ;)
First of all, are you serious? The white background is the only one that EXISTS for the DS. There was no other way to do it. It was in no way "far-fetched" to use the default menu settings for a non-scientific test. And he warned you that it was only his opinion, and not to take offense, but leave it to guys like you to not take the warning anyway.
I like how you know for certain that the white vs white will have the psp "blow the DS [Lite] out of the water", despite you not having a Lite. Sorry, but having an original DS grants you no impartiality.
Glad you can tell he's a fanboy by liking a handheld he bought. I don't understand your bit about the PSP blowing the original DS out of the water; of course it does, and everyone acknowledges that. However, it is worth noting that even if the brightness levels were equal between the two, the DS Lite battery lasts much longer then the PSP's at both their highest levels.
The test was as fair as you're gonna get out of him. He's already appeased one dingus this year. You seem to have had your mind made up on the PSP's superiority to the Lite before you even saw the video.
This is a remarkable series. I just had to add yet another voice of support: you have a great screen presence and incredible handle on the pulse of tech. We need a weekly video blog entry about all and sundry tech topics. Can we hook you up with Engadget (Rojas, are you feeling this?) to do something with them? Or perhaps Joystiq? Many blessings and all the best.

I watched all 3 parts, and I was laughing through the whole thing. Giant bedonkedonk cartridge like WarioWare makes it look slightly retarded; I couldn't agree more. I can't wait for a part 4, if there's one in coming. Keep it up.
That's awesome.. so I was thinking since we must live so close, I should come over there and test the DS Lite out for myself.. haha.
Once again terrific review and I hope I can someday afford your software :-p
"The white background is the only one that EXISTS for the DS".
There are about 12 colors for the psp, so why not set it to white, or just get any old white image and set it as the background.
"It was in no way "far-fetched" to use the default menu settings for a non-scientific test".
Your an idiot. The blue is the default settings for the psp (not fucking red your moron), and I'm sure the calender isn't the default setting for teh ds. Blue would show alot more brightness.
"leave it to guys like you to not take the warning anyway".
Maybe if he ran some fair tests he would find out that no one would be offended.
"I like how you know for certain that the white vs white will have the psp "blow the DS [Lite] out of the water", despite you not having a Lite. Sorry, but having an original DS grants you no impartiality."
You obviously can't read very well. I said if they are very close when the psp's background is set as red, and the ds's is set as white, then setting the psp'd to white would for sure blow it out of the water, because it would make a huge difference on an already close matchup.
"Glad you can tell he's a fanboy by liking a handheld he bought".
I can tell he's a fanboy because hiis test was in favor of the DS.
" the DS Lite battery lasts much longer then the PSP's at both their highest levels."
I'm not arguing about that, and I havent seen a test, but the battery tests that he did however was the DS sitting on screens, not being used, or allocating ram, or tansferring data... just sitting there... The actual batter, when used on nonstop play, would not last near as long, and you know that. Sur the psp has a shorter battery life, but whatever, I'll go buy another battery for $9 at wal*mart.
"The test was as fair as you're gonna get out of him".
if this was honestly his best attempt at a fair matchup, then he is a failiure as a produc reviewer / comparer. If he wanted a real test, he would have done a spectrum image, or an lcd test images.
"You seem to have had your mind made up on the PSP's superiority to the Lite before you even saw the video."
Not true at all. I simply realized that this entire review means nothing if he is going to compare items when they are no where near equal.
BTW, nick... lets see your ds lite? Your defending it sooooo much, i'm sure you would have to have one... Oh.. you dont? Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e?
A++ !!!
I did have a chance to look at the psp (my cousins) and my ds lite. It's a toss up on the screen, its realy up to preference. But i will say that the ds has the better games library.
Oh and Cabel, you are a king among handhelds.
Please make more.
Undyne
I ordered a DS lite on monday and it'll be here by Friday.
BTW, props for the Edge reference. Great mag.
I'm really not fond of video reviews - sometimes because the reviewers are just plain annoying, or their humor is quite... humorless, or because... well, I can't even understand what they're mumbling (English's not my native language. Not my second either, in fact. So... yeah, I may be hard to understand  ). I enjoyed the three reviews, fun, informative, and... understandable. That's important. Did I also say that I had a lot of fun watching them?
And thanks for the crisp image and sound - it makes them almost perfect.
Hillarious !

Check out the show.

Here's what I mean:
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7717/dslitegba2lo.jpg
I am puzzled as to what they are for, as far as I can tell it makes no difference to operation of the DS when its not in.
Dan
one question however: when you exit Pictochat or the options section of the main menu, does the ds lite always have to shut down entirely? is there no way you can simply return to the main menu screen?
PEACE
If you ever do pick up MPH, and wanna play. Im here. Im always here.
Will you marry me?
I was just wondering how it compares witht the GameGear? - 'cos that puppy was pretty bright too y'know!
Stay awesome.
best of all it was about the awsome new, DS lite.
Makes me want to buy one when it gets released in the US.
That and make a Ham Sandwich

"There are about 12 colors for the psp, so why not set it to white, or just get any old white image and set it as the background."
There's 12 because they cycle monthly. Like I said, it was an off-hand comparison and he obviously wasn’t aiming for complete accuracy. That’s what the latest picture was for. :D
"Your an idiot."
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah. Okay, next point.
"Your an idiot."
Sorry, it's still funny as hell.
“The blue is the default settings for the psp (not fucking red your moron), and I'm sure the calender isn't the default setting for teh ds. Blue would show alot more brightness.”
Hahahahaha. ‘Your’.
But listen, the default setting for the PSP background is a wallpaper that changes its color every month. Frankly, I’m surprised you didn’t know that.
You’re sure? You claim to have a DS, so you should know otherwise. The only dashboard screen on the DS is the one he showed, with the calendar. Frankly, it’s impossible to not know that if you own a DS.
“Maybe if he ran some fair tests he would find out that no one would be offended.”
Maybe you should be getting offended by a casual video comparison some guy makes on his blog. Crazy idea, right?
“You obviously can't read very well. I said if they are very close when the psp's background is set as red, and the ds's is set as white, then setting the psp'd to white would for sure blow it out of the water, because it would make a huge difference on an already close matchup.”
You’ve more than adequately proven that you can neither read nor write properly, so I’d be careful about pointing fingers.
And in the latest picture, he set it, and the DS Lite actually blew the PSP out of the water. Happy yet? No? Good.
“I can tell he's a fanboy because hiis test was in favor of the DS.”
Since when does the outcome of a test determine anything about the tester in question? That completely defeats the idea of a test. He’s checking to see which is better, with no predisposition either way.
“I'm not arguing about that, and I havent seen a test, but the battery tests that he did however was the DS sitting on screens, not being used, or allocating ram, or tansferring data... just sitting there... The actual batter, when used on nonstop play, would not last near as long, and you know that. Sur the psp has a shorter battery life, but whatever, I'll go buy another battery for $9 at wal*mart.”
The battery would last almost as long during gameplay as on the dashboard. Considering that it’s not trying to spin a freaking UMD, the workload isn’t that tough. Either way, if you read his post, you would’ve noticed that he had to work to wear it out.
“if this was honestly his best attempt at a fair matchup, then he is a failiure as a produc reviewer / comparer. If he wanted a real test, he would have done a spectrum image, or an lcd test images.”
And you’re a ‘failiure’ at ‘englis’.
Anyways, he didn’t. He did a casual test, and it’s not your place to bitch and moan that he didn’t do it the way you wanted.
"Not true at all. I simply realized that this entire review means nothing if he is going to compare items when they are no where near equal.”
Haha, after seeing the picture he just posted, I agree. They certainly aren’t equal.
“BTW, nick... lets see your ds lite? Your defending it sooooo much, i'm sure you would have to have one... Oh.. you dont? Can you say h-y-p-o-c-r-i-t-e”
Uhh, yes I can. Can you define hypocrite? Because I don’t see anything hypocritical about what happened. A better example would be that it’d be hypocritical to praise the DS Lite then go and buy one when you realize that it actually has games coming out for it. I expect that soon.
Very nice review, found it quite amusing and informative, I hope I will be able to do a one like this when I will get my revolution ;)
Keep up the good work and btw, loves your software.
Cheers
Redoid
If he had a psp and he wanted to make a fair brightness comparison, he should have used a white image.
ps: my only complaint about the DS lite as opposed to the PSP, is that the DS lite doesnt have those cool katamari cases :(
...also, I must whole-heartedly declare that the genius of the froot loops scene cannot be denied.
does the GB micro charger work in the DS lite? because the charge ports do look rather similar.
Just kidding, awesomeness is a word based around YOU!
Hilarious in a semi-random way, as always.
I'm not sure if anyone has asked this, but I was wondering (since the power switch is on the outside now) can you (accidentally, perhaps) turn the system on/off while it is closed in sleep mode? Hopefully not, if so, that would suck. Thanks.
If it's already been mentioned, sorry. I didn't read every comment.
Other than that, pretty solid review. :)
thats the big day for the DS Lite in the US
mark you calendars people! :)
BTW, I love your blog! Can I put a link to your blog from my Blog?
Just one thing I'm still curious about: is the screen bright enough to play outside in sunlight, because I'd love to do that with the DS, other handhelds were often too dark so that I couldn't see anything.
great reviews! id love to see more review done buy you!
im living in england.. and im gunna get my mate to get me one while hes in america (release date 11th june)
just wundering...
iv had game boys and nintendo products b4.. and they wer built solid!how does the ds lite compare?
i had a psp... and i was soo scared of breaking it! it just didnt seem to have the quality of a nintendo console! b great if u kud get back on this!
i don't think the purpose of this video is to "humiliate" or "drown" the psp into the abyss... the creator of this video has indeed compared the ds lite with ds, which are of the same company in his "second look", the it was clearly shown that even ds' brightness is not up to that of the ds lite. all these were just to compare the brightness, that's all. so it's no point getting so agitated or depressed over it.
however, comparing the brightness is not the sole purpose, there was still the battery observation test. Personally, i play my ds lite every day for about 5 hours, using the lowest brightness and it lasted me for 4 days of 5 hours gameplay daily.
and about the dead pixel.. after i bought my ds lite, i realised there is a dead pixel. it's obvious when the screen is black or dark. the lid was not properly aligned to the bottom half of the unit and i was quite sad about it. however, i was lucky to be able to have it replaced by the retail shop mainly of the pixel problem. and guess what, the last four digit of the serial number of the replacement happened to be the same as my vehicle number plate! i was really overjoyed and become a happier person. i supposed it's all boiled down to manufacturer problem and luck.
about the power adapter charger, mine was directly imported from japan, and so it comes with a 110v type, and i have purchased 2 different chargers later that accomodate the 240v requirement in my country.
i found a white wrist strap similar to that to psp and replaced it with the strap that comes with it, mainly because i do not want to dirty the original strap that comes with a nintendo printed on it..
i never own a ds, and when i have the chance after having my own ds lite, i could really feel the great difference in terms of weight and sizes.
well, everything works fine now, and yes, i do really enjoy the company of my ds lite wherever i go ^^
keep up the good work, cabel ^^
thanx!
Last week, I bought a regular DS. Three days later, I heard about the DS Lite. So... I threw a little tantrum, returned my DS, and decided to wait for DS Lite to hit U.S. shores.
But now I'm hearing speculation about the U.S. release date being pushed back until Christmas (God forbid). If that happens, I'll probably get impatient and buy an import, but I want to make sure the import has English language support (or the ability to obtain it somehow). Musings?
Btw, great video reviews. They're by far the best documentation I've seen of the DS Lite.
So what do you know? is it dark blue or black? If you know, thanx.
and the actual dark blue ds lite is not any near to black, you are still able to recognise the color as dark blue..
http://e3.nintendo.com/news/lighter_brighter_hardware_follows_latest_version_o/
$130, too. Not bad(?)
Awesome video reviews, I watch them over and over again, can't wait to get a DS lite! (and the frootloops in eps. 2 cracked me up! XD
If not I will have to buy another one!
Thanks
You took you're DS lite on a date, then it died on you. I wonder if that happens to you're normal dates with humans? =\ Perhaps.
You've updated the information for the DS lite for me. - For that i thank you, before these 3 vidoes, i thought the DS lite was a piece of junk and a waste of mulay, but apperently i was proved wrong. Thank you.
I had questions for you before....But uh i forget most of them, i'm sure to comment back sometime soon.
Keep in touch?

Great Videos, should make more for more systems other than DS lite. [ Wii for example? ]
But what you consider the most DS lite, or the PSP?
That's all for now.
P.S [ For all that's wondering the Nintendo DS lite will be hitting stores everywhere June 11th, 2006. ] [ ^^; getting mine the first day! ]
- Fan.
I love your review style and the thoroughness with which you reviewed the DS Lite. I'm totally going to buy one whenever they come out here in the States just because of your review.
I actually came here looking for a review of the new Macbooks haha (hey, it was worth a shot).
You should seriously think about reviewing more products in this style!
Rock on, man.
Just reserved mine at EBGames. Yay for brighter screens and no more squinty-eyed headaches!
Just wanted to let you know incase you didnt, The PSP actually can go up one more brightness setting when it is plugged into the wall.
Kbye
Yes you can, but remember they come out June 11 for $130. Just wait and you pay less for the DS and not have to pay shipping.
will be available in 2 colours... white, and black!
cant wait to get mine! : )
source of info

great reviews btw!
thanx
Az......
And do you know when the black DS Lite is comming for the United States
***awesome videos**
check out the import sites tho.. they may import them from europe (at a price)
the price for the ds lite in england will be 100pounds, which works out about 186.34usd thats 56usd more than what it costs to buy in america
so 56 + import charges + shipping and handling = im guessin over 100 dollers to get the black ds imported from england... also you will need a plug in adapter as the uk are 3 pins (220v), and us is 2pin sockets (110v)
hope this helps!
If you know, how does the web browser work for the ds? And when does it come out?
Does the ds have the same connection as a regular ds when you play against friends?
can I browse the internet if I get a DS Lite? I CAN'T WAIT FOR JUNE 11!!!!!!!!
(see previous entry)
